As a mother of three children, I spend a lot of time on the edge of sports pitches, watching both parents and children shivering in the North Devon cold and rain. When my children weren't directly involved in the play they would quickly lose body heat which affected their performance and their attitude. Even the expensive designer base layers, promoted by the professionals, seemed to offer little real thermal value.

At play, the winter coats, scarves and hats I so lovingly sewed name tags onto at the beginning of the season hung off their backs as they ran around magically held on by their arms alone or worse, lay as goal posts in the mud. So I set about finding a product that would keep them warm whatever they chose to do outside, whilst not interfering with their sports kit or school uniform.

This proved to be a difficult task. Many of the thermal base layers sold on the high street are little more than cotton vests or cheap fleeces sold as fashion items. I also took into consideration how image aware even very young children are, often not wearing their coats and jumpers because it isn't "cool".

So, I set myself the challenge to come up with a covetable base layer that would really keep children warm. Soon, I was lucky enough to strike upon a talented textile designer who has tried and tested this unique fabric in the toughest of environments.

The structure of this unique British designed fabric breathes efficiently whilst offering maximum thermal value keeping you comfortable whether you are wet or dry. The black fabric gives a really warm base to wetsuits, sports kit or any outdoor clothing offering a great solution to the ever undone jacket or replaces heavy winter clothes and numerous layers.

Soon, parents were begging for some of their own and before long we built up an adults range that lends itself to a multitude of different activities. Among others, we now supply to motorcyclists, climbers, cyclists, the elderly and sick, sports people, surfers, as well as the mum's freezing on the sidelines!
